The Allan goodman class has been canceled.
August 26
Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers Festival & Show
We are +/- around 40 days till training begins. There is a new Facebook page for the show. Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers Annual Show.
Also, you can get the info for show from our web page, http://smkywc.club/
Training
We are picking up some reservations for the seminars. Sadly, Bill Johnson will not have a chip carving class this year. We have a couple other classes that have not hit the minimum student number and couple that are almost full. So please make plans for any of the classes as soon as possible. Allen Goodman and Richard Houlden's classes are below the minimum at this point. Both have great projects ready to share. Once you get Allen's walking stick carved, you have plenty of trails to show it off in the Smokies before the show starts on Saturday. Richard has great expressions in his faces. Please take advantage of the learning opportunities.
Demonstrations
Working on a lineup for demonstrations. If you have an idea you would like to share, I would be glad to discuss with you. And yes, have fixed the noise issue that plague the demonstrations last year.
About the show
We will have a silent auction and raffles similar to last year but with even more stuff! Also, there is a free hourly raffle for the general public. Carvers are donating their work to showcase our hobby to the public. In addition, we will have a special award for the best realistic bird entry in the show. This is to honor Clair Smith, our club member, who was an outstanding carver, competitor and mentor to many in our club. Clair passed away last November. He won Best of Show numerous times and won People's choice and 2nd Best of Show last year. He will be missed greatly. Fran, his widow, generously donated carvings for the silent auction and carving equipment/supplies
Bob Stadtlander will be there and have plenty of supplies. You can pre-order from him to avoid shipping and make sure he brings what you need.
